What we ask for
That is not a promise about how we behave. There is no code in this site that can make a request to another service, so it is a thing the software cannot do.
The one thing we ask you for
Your x.com handle, and only so that the links and the request text we show you have your name in them instead of a blank. It is not sent to anyone, it is not written down, and it never travels in a web address, so it cannot turn up in a server log.
We do not check that the handle is yours, because there is no way for us to check it without either paying X for access or asking you to post something publicly. Both were considered and neither was worth its cost. That means this tool cannot tell whether you typed your own name or someone else's, and it also means nothing here can be used to find anything out about anybody: a handle you type produces the same page as any other handle, because we looked nothing up.
Why we hand you links instead of answers
The obvious design would be for our server to check each service and report what it found. We do not do that, for two reasons. Asking on your behalf would mean this site could be pointed at any handle by anyone, which is the thing we just described as impossible. And it would put our server between you and the answer, so the answer would pass through us.
Instead the link is built in the page and you click it. The service you are checking sees your browser and your address, exactly as it would if you had typed its site in yourself. We never see what it told you.
What we never do
- We never contact X. Not to check a handle, not to read a timeline, not at all.
- We never contact an archive or a broker. Including the ones we tell you to write to. We give you the address and the words; you send it.
- We never submit anything for you. Every removal request is text you read, decide on and send yourself.
- We never build a profile. There is nothing to build one from. We read nothing about you, so there is nothing to draw a conclusion from.
